Reduce anxiety about a new or hard situation by previewing it.
What you'll need
- Index cards or a small notebook
- Marker
- Optional: photos
Step by step
- 1
Pick one upcoming event: doctor visit, birthday party, first day back at school.

Write 5–7 simple sentences from your child's perspective: 'Tomorrow I will go to Dr. Lee. She has a stethoscope.'

Include a sentence about what your child can do if they feel anxious: 'If I feel nervous I can squeeze my squishy ball.'

Read it together the night before and again in the morning.

Bring it with you. Re-read during the event if needed.
