- Whatever your child is interested in right now
Step by step
- 1
Sit at their level, on the floor if needed.
- 2
Join whatever they're doing — don't redirect.
- 3
Make a small comment, gesture, or play move that invites a response.
- 4
Wait. When they respond (look, sound, gesture, action), respond back.
- 5
Count to yourself — aim for 10 unbroken exchanges. Then celebrate quietly.
Variations & next steps
Try it during bath, snack, car rides. The medium is irrelevant; the loop is everything.
